HaloKid

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026

HaloKid ("HaloKid", "we", "us") provides a parenting support app at halokid.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to everyone who uses HaloKid, whether on the Free plan or a Pro subscription.

If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@halokid.app — we'll explain it in plain language.

1. Who this applies to

HaloKid is designed for parents and legal guardians. You create the account; your children do not. Any information about your child (name, date of birth, mood logs, activity notes, journal entries) is entered by you, the parent, as part of using the service; HaloKid does not collect information directly from children, and children do not have their own logins.

2. Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, and authentication details, managed via Supabase Auth.

Family and child information you choose to enter: your child's name, date of birth, and the developmental stage HaloKid calculates from it.

Activity data you create: mood logs, chore completions, focus and connection session logs, and journal entries (including a "private" flag for journal entries you don't want to share with a co-parent).

AI Coach conversations: the messages you send to the AI Coach, and the responses it gives. See section 5 for how these are handled.

Payment information: if you subscribe to Pro, our payment processor (Lemon Squeezy, acting as Merchant of Record) collects your payment details directly. HaloKid never receives or stores your card number.

What we don't collect: we do not use advertising trackers, analytics pixels, or third-party behavioural tracking of any kind. We don't access your contacts, location, or other apps. We don't have an advertising business, so we have no reason to build a profile of you or your child.

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the HaloKid service you've signed up for: displaying your dashboards, calculating your child's developmental stage, generating mood charts and history, powering the AI Coach, sending account-related emails (e.g. co-parent invites, password resets), processing your subscription, and responding to support requests.

We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers or data brokers — on the Free plan or the Pro plan.

4. Who we share information with (sub-processors)

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run HaloKid. Each only receives the data it needs to perform its function, and none are permitted to use your data for their own purposes (e.g. advertising).

ProviderPurposeWhat it sees
SupabaseDatabase & authenticationAll account and family data (encrypted at rest)

ResendTransactional emailYour email address, for invites and account notifications
Lemon SqueezyPayments (Merchant of Record)Your payment details, billing email, and subscription status

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a user or the public.

5. The AI Coach

When you use the AI Coach, your messages and basic context about your child (name, age, developmental stage) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. It is retained only briefly (a matter of days) for safety and abuse-prevention purposes, and then deleted.

The AI Coach provides general developmental guidance based on our curated knowledge base from academic sources. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified medical, psychological, or educational professional, and should not be relied on for diagnosis or treatment decisions.

6. Mood and journal data — extra care

We recognise that mood logs and journal entries about your child can be emotionally sensitive. This data is:

  • encrypted at rest and in transit;
  • restricted by database-level access rules so that only you and any co-parent you've explicitly invited can see it;
  • never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the HaloKid service to your family;
  • visible to HaloKid staff only when necessary to investigate abuse, respond to a support request you've raised, or comply with the law.

Journal entries and notes are designed for capturing pleasant moments, developmental milestones, and small everyday anecdotes — a record of your child growing up, not a repository for sensitive personal, medical, or legally significant information. Please use them with that spirit in mind and avoid entering information you would not be comfortable storing digitally.

Journal entries you mark "private" are not visible to your co-parent — this is enforced by the database itself, not just the app's interface.

7. Cookies

HaloKid uses only essential cookies needed to keep you signed in (via Supabase Auth). We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, so there's no cookie-consent banner — there's nothing to consent to beyond what's needed to make the app work.

8. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see section 9), we delete your personal data within 14 days, except for: (a) information we're required to retain for tax, accounting, or legal purposes (e.g. payment records), and (b) residual copies in encrypted backups, which are automatically purged on our standard backup rotation schedule.

9. Your rights

Regardless of whether you're on the Free or Pro plan, you can:

  • Access your data — most of it is visible directly in the app; if you are on the Pro plan, you can also export your family's logs as an Excel file from the dashboard.
  • Correct your data — edit journal entries and account details directly in the app.
  • Delete your account and data — use the Delete Account option in Settings. We'll send a confirmation email; once confirmed, your account enters a 14-day grace period before permanent deletion.
  • Withdraw consent / object — stop using a feature (e.g. the AI Coach) at any time without affecting the rest of your account.

If you're in the EU/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you're in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have equivalent rights to access, delete, and opt out of the sale of personal information — which is straightforward for us, since we don't sell personal information.

10. International data transfers

Our service providers (Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic, Resend, Lemon Squeezy) may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States and EU. Each provider maintains appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.

11. Children's privacy

HaloKid is a tool for adults (parents/legal guardians) to manage information about their family. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or interact directly with HaloKid. If you believe a child has created an account directly, contact us at hello@halokid.app and we'll remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes to this policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we'll also notify you by email or an in-app notice.
