Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

HaloKid is intended for parents and legal guardians who are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). By creating an account, you confirm you meet this requirement and that any information you enter about your children is entered by you, with appropriate authority as their parent or guardian.

2. Your Account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. If you invite a co-parent, you're both responsible for how the shared family account is used. Notify us promptly at hello@halokid.app if you suspect unauthorised access.

3. The Service

HaloKid helps parents track their child's mood, routines, chores, focus and connection activities, and developmental milestones, and provides an AI-powered coaching feature grounded in developmental science. The Service is provided through our website and app, and may be updated, expanded, or changed from time to time (see section 13).

4. Free and Pro Plans

HaloKid is offered in two tiers:

5. Subscriptions, Billing, and Taxes

Pro subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance, and renew automatically until cancelled. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy (www.lemonsqueezy.com), who acts as the Merchant of Record for your purchase. This means:

• Lemon Squeezy, not HaloKid, is the seller of record on your receipt and bank/card statement.
• Prices shown are tax-exclusive; applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST is calculated automatically based on your payment method's country/region and added at checkout.
• Lemon Squeezy handles payment security (PCI compliance) — HaloKid never receives or stores your card details.
• You can view receipts, update your payment method, and manage your subscription via the "Manage Billing" link in Settings.

6. Cancellation, Refunds, and Access After Cancellation

Cancelling. You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time via the customer portal in Settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you will not be charged again.

Access after cancellation. When you cancel, your Pro features remain available until the end of the period you've already paid for. After that, your account reverts to the Free plan: only your first registered child remains active, additional children's profiles are deactivated (data retained, accessible again on resubscription or via export), your co-parent account is suspended, Journaling becomes unavailable, and history is limited to a rolling 14-day window. Daily entry limits for Mood, Chores, Focus, and Connection also revert to Free plan levels.

14-day money-back guarantee. If you're subscribing to Pro for the first time and decide within 14 days of your initial payment that it's not right for you, email hello@halokid.app for a full refund. Your account will revert to Free plan limits. This guarantee applies once per family, to a first subscription only; it does not apply to renewals or to a second subscription after a previous refund.

After the 14-day window. We don't provide partial refunds for unused time within a billing period, but you can cancel at any time to prevent future charges, and you'll retain access for the remainder of the period you paid for.

Chargebacks. If you have a billing concern, please contact us first at hello@halokid.app — we're a small team and genuinely want to resolve issues directly. Lemon Squeezy, as Merchant of Record, may also independently issue refunds in some circumstances to prevent payment disputes.

7. Free Trials, Promo Codes, and Access Codes

From time to time we may offer promotional access codes (e.g. extra AI Coach sessions, temporary Pro access, or subscription extensions). These are provided at our discretion, may have expiry dates or usage limits, and have no cash value.

8. Your Content

You retain ownership of the information you enter into HaloKid: your family's profile, mood logs, journal entries, and notes ("Your Content"). By using the Service, you grant HaloKid a limited licence to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you and any co-parent you invite. We do not use Your Content for advertising, and we do not sell it. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.

You're responsible for the content you enter, including ensuring you have the right to enter information about your children and any co-parent.

9. AI Coach

The AI Coach provides general, science-based parenting guidance generated using RAG AI (Anthropic's Claude), with content curated from well-reputed academic resources only. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, developmental, or educational advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified professional for concerns about your child's health or development. AI-generated responses may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate; use your judgment and seek professional advice for important decisions.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: use HaloKid for any unlawful purpose; attempt to access another family's data or bypass access controls; misuse the invite system to spam or harass others; attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service; or use the AI Coach to attempt to generate harmful, abusive, or illegal content. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

11. Intellectual Property

HaloKid, including its software, design, branding, and the HaloKid knowledge base, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your family's personal use. You may not copy, resell, sublicense, or create derivative works from the Service without our written permission.

The HaloKid knowledge base and HaloKidPedia draw on publicly available academic and scientific literature on child development. Content is curated, summarised, and organised thematically to support the features you use. Each piece includes citations to its original source (author or institution, article title, and year) for reference; these do not imply endorsement by or affiliation with those authors or institutions. HaloKid makes no claim to authorship of the underlying academic work.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, HaloKid and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or $0 if you're on the Free plan).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (e.g. liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, where required).

13. Changes to the Service and These Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time, for example to add features, adjust plan limits, or reflect legal requirements. We'll post the updated Terms here with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes (e.g. price changes or significant reductions to Pro features) we'll make reasonable efforts to notify active subscribers by email before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Termination

You may stop using HaloKid and delete your account at any time (see our Privacy Policy for how). We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, with notice where reasonably possible. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; your data will be handled per our Privacy Policy's retention and deletion terms.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If a dispute arises, we ask that you first contact us at hello@halokid.app so we can try to resolve it informally. If that doesn't work, disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United Arab Emirates.

16. Miscellaneous

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and HaloKid regarding the Service.
